Fashion Friday: Curly Hair

Yay! I have successfully made it through my second week of school! It’s been a pretty good week. I’m slowly adjusting to school mode. I just got back from a happy hour with about thirty students in my program.. so. much. fun! I’m glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and headed there for a few hours!

On to Fashion Friday… and particularly hair. So I have this obsession with curly hair. Not super tight ringlets but more long wavy curls. Like this…

I am absolutely horrible with a curling iron and so I always use hot rollers, which ends up making my hair look like this:

I like the hot rollers because they are quick and easy to use but I end up having tight curls that don’t fall out very much.

So this morning I woke up and naturally looked through my Pinterest and found this tutorial:

~ Check out Cara’s blog! She has such cute fashion and fair tricks.

The video from Cara is for big wavy curls! Score! A few things I learned:

  • Keep the curling iron straight down– it keeps all of the curls looking similar.
  • Curl the hair around the outside of the curling iron barrel.
  • Curl away from your face.
  • Do not clamp the ends of your hair! Who knew?

With a lot of patience and a burnt ear from my curling iron… I ended up with this:

It’s official. I’m in love. I can’t wait to get better!

WILW: What I’m Loving Wednesday

It’s the second week of school and at this point I’m fairly in the swing of things. I started my new job on Monday.. I am thrilled to be working with my favorite professor! It will be nice to have a part-time job that is in the same building as most of my classes. This will be perfect for working in between classes.

As for WILW this week here are my current loves…

Woven Bow Belt by Anthropologie

I’m loving this bow belt from Anthropologie. I actually went and tried this belt on three times.. in three days. I couldn’t decide whether I actually wanted it or not. But guess who got me a half birthday present?! Cody. It was pretty obvious that I was obsessed with it 🙂 Such a sweet man. If you don’t celebrate half birthdays– I strongly suggest that you start!

Song Home by Phillip Phillips

I love how soothing this song is.. it is on repeat as I’m writing this post 🙂

New Pinterest App Version

Before this new version of the Pinterest application I didn’t get on Pinterest unless I was on my computer. The new version has an updated screen view and is much easier to search for friends. Good work Pinterest team!

Carmen Photo

Carmen is certainly a good sport with having her picture taken. This is my current favorite picture of her.. it cracks me up. She is wearing Cody’s baseball cap.

GF Baked Oatmeal Casserole from Urban Nester

I changed the original recipe a bit and absolutely loved it. I used peaches and blueberries instead of raspberries and bananas. It is delicious! I highly recommend making it!

Is there anything you can’t get enough of this week?

Have a fabulous Wednesday!

Fashion Friday: Fall Nights

As much as I hate to admit it.. it is August (almost September) and school has started. The positive to all of this are warm days and cool nights and it’s time for football weekends. So here is just a casual fall night look. Please don’t hate me that I’m talking about summer being over, okay?

Top: Market V-neck T from Gap. $19.95.

Accent: Charming Peacock Feather Scarf from Deloom. $17.85.

Bottom: Women’s The Rockstar Super Skinny Jeans from Old Navy-  $29.00

Shoes:  Troopa – Women’s Combat Leather Boots by Steve Madden. $99.95.

Have a great Friday!

Last first day??

Yesterday was my first day of classes in the last year of my public health grad program (a bit of a mouth full to say). Or as my friend told me it’s my last-first day of school (I have a strong suspicion this won’t be the last of my school).

It seems like I have the same rituals for the first day of school as  I did when I was little. I always wake up extra early and make a great big breakfast with a large cup of coffee/tea (ok ok… caffeine actually didn’t start till high school). The night before I always pick out my breakfast, pack my lunch, and get my backpack ready. Every year I get these pre-school jitters where I can’t sleep the night before and I reflect on the summer and my past year of school.

As familiar as my pre-school year routine is.. I am in a much different place mentally this year when compared with past years. Currently I am thinking about my future career as in something that will happen sooner rather than later. My career/job has always seemed like something so distant from now but it isn’t anymore. In a year from now I hope to have a full-time job working in public health arena.

I have been in school for all but 4 years of my life. How crazyyy is that? I am looking forward to the next year.. but I am also very nervous. I want to have a great career focused on the health of others. I want to make a difference. People Water has a shirt right now that says…

“We aren’t asking you to change anything except the world.” What a great saying. I am ready to make my mark on the world… it may start out with some crappy first big girl job but I’m excited to get started.

Guess who is coming to visit??

Guess who is coming to visit?!?

My boyfriend recently moved to NY for work (about six weeks ago) and is flying into town today for training. I am SO excited to see him!

What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Fashion Fridays: Favorite Running Items

TGIF! It’s Friday!

I recently started training for my next half marathon so I thought I would share my favorite running items. So this is a bit of a different fashion Friday.

Garmin Running Watch:

I currently have the Garmin Forerunner 405 running watch and love it. I have had it for over two years and use it for all training runs. Although the Garmin watches are pretty large, the 405 is a manageable size and has easy to use features. I’m pretty sure this watch is smarter than me.. so I am constantly learning new features that the watch can do.

Goody Elastic Athletic Headbands. I use these headbands on every run. They stay in my hair and keep all of my fly aways in check.

Running Shirts:

Personally I love wearing the shirts that I have received from past races. I always feel more motivated when I run in shirts that I earned.

Running Shorts:

Nike Women’s Tempo Track Running Shorts. I have these shorts in pretty much every color. They are super comfortable and a good length for running shorts.

I also use Bodyglide Anti-Chafe Balm for long runs. This anti-chafe glide is amazing.

WILW: What I’m Loving Wednesday

Here is what I’m currently loving this beautiful Wednesday morning…

1. Pandora App on my Phone. Umm.. how is the world did I not have this app already on my phone?! I listen to Pandora on my computer all of the time but I didn’t realized there was an app (which is silly because there is an app for literally everything).

2. Joshua Radin’s New CD. I am currently obsessed with the song ‘So Long Sunshine.’

<iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”; frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen>

3. Watching gymnastics on the Olympics. I grew up doing gymnastics from the time I was 3 until the I was 16 years old and then I coached. I love everything about the sport. Gymnastics is so different from many sports like baseball, football, etc because it isn’t something you can really continue to do as you get older. It’s not like I have a spare balance beam or set of bars in my basement (the equipment is a tiny bit expensive and heavy).. so I think watching the Olympics lets me reminisce.

Cue awkward picture 🙂 I am on the far right.

4. Make Up For Ever: Aqua Eyes. Sold at Sephora for $18. I absolutely love this eyeliner and ran out about two weeks ago. I will be ordering this very soon! It is perfect because it doesn’t smudge and is easy to apply. I used Clinique eyeliner for years and always had an issue with it smudging everywhere and then ended up looking like a raccoon.

5. Kong Wobbler Toy. Carmen has some separation anxiety when she is alone. She has eaten several towels, a comforter, a dog bed, and countless toys. The only solution we have come up with is to crate her when we leave and do not put ANYTHING in there with her. The issue is that she started bruising her nose and being a bit of a noisy neighbor. So we started giving her this Kong toy and stuffing it with treats/peanut butter/ etc. When I come back to the apartment she is passed out because she spent so much time getting the treats out of the toy. Hallelujah! I also am contemplating ordering a Thundershirt to put on her when we leave. Hopefully the Kong toy will continue to work.

I’m sorry about the blurring photo but you get the idea 🙂

What is one thing you are currently obsessed with?

Color Run Check!

So three of my sorority sisters and I ran the Color Run together!

If you aren’t familiar with the Color Run.. check out this video.

It is seriously “the happiest 5k on the planet!”

Here is my sorority twin and me!

Cait, Char, Court, and me.

Such a fun experience! I highly recommend running one. Just a few pieces of advice~

  • Wear a bandana ~ very useful to cover your mouth and nose when you are running through the color.
  • Wear sunglasses ~ 100% necessary!
  • Bring a water bottle ~ there is one water station but if you get color in your mouth it is pretty chalky.
  • Use a disposable camera ~ there were so many people using their iPhones to take pictures. People are so crazy! Definitely use a disposable one so if something happens to your camera it isn’t a big deal.  Unfortunately all of my fun pictures during the race haven’t been developed yet ~ hence why we don’t look super colorful in the photos above. The ones above were all taken after the race when we had taken our colorful clothes off.
  • Run with friends and enjoy yourself! ~ pretty self-explanatory. Just have fun!!

What is the most fun 5K you have ever run? Every year my family runs a turkey trot on Thanksgiving but I have never done ANYTHING like the color run. Such a fun experience 🙂

Fashion Friday: Simple Date Night Outfit

Another Friday… another Fashion Friday.

My friends and I play this game at work where we give each other a clothing scenario written on a piece of paper and you have to pick out an outfit in one minute. Working retail this game is very entertaining 🙂 Here was my latest scenario:

Your mission if you choice to accept:

“You just finished another half marathon and find out that the hot guy

you passed during the race is going to be at dinner that night.

After seeing you all hot and sweaty… you need an outfit to impress him.

Ready… set… go!”

So the outfit below is what I would wear on a date night with this apparently good looking half marathoner ;P I’m sure they were talking about Cody!

I love this simple and classy dress. Such an easy dress to throw on and look great! This is from my WILW post this past week. I am officially in love. I also have a thing for this color and cut this Spring!

I also love these Badgley Mischka “Goodie” Pump. I am sure they would look adorable with multiple outfits, which they should for their price tag. Ouch!

For the accessories I like adding another color to the outfit. This orange definitely does the trick in the earrings, necklace, and cocktail ring.

JCrew: Cabochon Fan Earrings

JCrew: Cabochon Fan Pendant Necklace

Macy’s: Cocktail Ring.

So there you have it.. this guy half marathoner didn’t stand a chance 🙂

WILW: What I’m Loving Wednesday

It has been a while since I have written a WILW but it’s time to get back into them~ because they are so fun!

So here is what I’m loving this Wednesday…

1. Being able to FaceTime with Cody. I can’t tell you how much of a difference it makes to see Cody. For the first week we weren’t able to FaceTime because I didn’t have Internet at my apartment (also why I haven’t been able to post). But this past week we have been able to chat face-to-face in the morning and at night. It has been wonderful!

2. The show~ 2 Broke Girls. A few of my friends recommended this show but I didn’t watch it until this week. It is such a cute show. The producers of Sex and the City created this show and they just finished the first season. Thankfully they are making another season! The show is a little cheesy but really funny. I highly recommend it!

3. Trader Joe’s Dried Fruit: Just Mango Slices (Unsulfered & Unsweetened). This dried fruit is seriously addictive. My oldest brother introduced me to the dried mango a few years ago- but somehow I forgot about it!

4. Brendan James: Nightlife. This song and music video is a.m.a.z.i.n.g. I first saw it on the blog Healthy Tipping Point. I literally can’t stop listening to it. So good!

5. High/low dresses. These dresses are a new Spring trend that I wasn’t so sure of at first but they are growing on me. I think they are so cute! Here is an example.

What are you in love with this week?
